A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Carlton Blues and Essendon Knights.

Carlton starter Hung-k'uei Liao put a stranglehold on the Essendon offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Blues to a 7-0 win. The Blues, now 5-1, have been playing some good baseball.

Liao, the winning pitcher, raised his record to 1-0. In 8 innings of work, Liao gave up no runs on 2 hits, while racking up 7 Ks. He kept the Knights punchless, offensively.

"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Liao told the Carlton Gazette.
