The Penrith Panthers called upon starter Dayle Lowen, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Cronulla Sharks, 3-2. Lowen, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. Matthew Ince closed it out for his 1st save.
Penrith right fielder Darren Rochow contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a solo home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Panthers ahead, 3-1.
"I like what I saw today," said Penrith manager Mark Haydock, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The win gives Penrith a record of 4-4.
