South Sydney Advances to Grand Final
Saturday, March 15th, 1997
The championship aspirations of the South Sydney Rabbitohs are still alive and well, while the Canterbury Bulldogs are left to wait until next year.

South Sydney won the clinching game of the Semi Finals 6-0 over Canterbury at Canterbury Grounds, to win the series 4-2.

"You feel like a little kid again, celebrating something like this," said first baseman Decker Wooddisse, who paced the South Sydney offense and was named series MVP. "We take everything real seriously when we're on the field, but after a series is over you can finally relax a little bit."

Wooddisse claimed the MVP by racking up 10 hits for a .435 average, with a .480 on-base percentage. He had 6 home runs, 12 RBI and scored 7 runs.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs will play against the Penrith Panthers in the next round. Penrith won their series against the Parramatta Giants 4 games to 2. The Grand Final schedule will be announced after the Semi Finals finishes.

Saturday, March 15th, 1997

For the series, Anyan hit .364 with a .517 on-base percentage. He had 4 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 11 runs.

RF Tomsett Receives 3-Game Suspension
Saturday, March 15th, 1997
Canterbury Bulldogs right fielder Boof Tomsett was suspended 3 games by the league commissioner today, a day after arguing his ejection during a game against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

"I think the 3 games are a little harsh," Tomsett said.

He was ejected by plate umpire for arguing balls and strikes.

After his ejection, Tomsett went into the dugout, then came back on the field, argued with the umpire and had to be restrained by coaches and teammates. The suspension was issued for "unbecoming conduct and returning to the field of play after being dismissed."

Tomsett currently has a .311 batting average with 166 hits, 2 homers, 60 RBIs, 93 runs scored and a .379 OBP.
