Willie Soames Hurt, Out for Year
Friday, January 4th, 1985
The St. George Dragons and their fans were rocked today by the news that star closer Willie Soames would miss the rest of the season due to injury. Soames was hurt in a recent game against the South Sydney Rabbitohs while throwing a pitch. He was immediately removed from the game and taken for examination. Tests today revealed the injury was bone chips in his elbow. His doctors think that Soames will miss about 5 months.

To date in 29 relief appearances, Soames has recorded no saves while posting an ERA of 3.09 and 20 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched. His totals for the year also include 1 win and 3 losses.
