Dragons Soames Lost for Year
Sunday, January 19th, 1986
The doctors have spoken and Willie Soames of the St. George Dragons didn't like what he heard. The 34-year-old reliever is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Soames sustained his season-ending injury during the Penrith Panthers game yesterday at Kogorah Oval. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while throwing a pitch. Today the St. George medical staff reported Soames had a bone spur in his elbow and would be absent from the lineup for at least 4-5 months.

Soames has taken the mound for 28 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 2-2 record with a 6.35 ERA. The St. George reliever has limited opposing batters to a .281 batting average.
