Wonnacott Batters Redfern for 5 Hits
Tuesday, March 4th, 1997
After a 5-hit effort to lead Caringbah's 9-7 victory over the Redfern Railroaders, center fielder John Wonnacott told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Reserve Grade-level is really something special."

The 23-year-old player earned his accolades today at Caringbah Fields with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Railroaders.

"His swing is getting there," said Aces skipper , who spoke glowingly of Wonnacott after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. John did that to perfection today."

John Wonnacott singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

In his 1996 season totals, Wonnacott has 10 home runs, .368 BA, .484 OBP, 53 RBIs and 39 runs scored.
