Toronto 83-54 After 5-3 Win Over New York
|
The Toronto Blue Jays withstood an impressive performance by New York designated hitter Steve Gilbreath to defeat the Yankees, 5-3, at Rogers Centre. Gilbreath went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Toronto starter Tyrese Voltaire was credited with the win after throwing 101 pitches over 6.2 innings. His record now stands at 14-10. Bobby Dize recorded the save, his 37th.
In the bottom of the fifth, Joel Bussey delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the Toronto pinch hitter hit a 2-run single, putting the Blue Jays in front, 5-3.
Bussey attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
The first-place Blue Jays are 83-54.
