Boston Gets 9-7 Win
|
Boston and Montreal duked it out and the Red Sox came out victorious.
The Boston Red Sox overcame a fine performance by Montreal left fielder Jimmy Miramontes to defeat the Expos, 9-7, at Olympic Stadium. Miramontes went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times. The winning pitcher was Ángel Villanueva. His record is now 4-2. The right-hander went 7.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits for the Red Sox. Jayden Spencer nailed down his 5th save.
Chase Veliz, the 32-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Veliz contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Boston up, 2-1.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Veliz told the Boston Gazette.
Montreal is 13-13 after the loss.
