Red Sox Nose Past Birmingham, 3-2
|
The Red Sox grabbed a win, 3-2, at Raley Field, overcoming a fine effort from Birmingham pitcher Pastor Olivas. Olivas went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Nathan Brashear came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. His record now stands at 6-4. The Red Sox move to 56-52 with the win, while the Barons drop to 52-56.
Jeremy Fountain, the 27-year old left fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Fountain contributed a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put Pawtucket up, 3-2.
"The chili dogs will taste better tonight after this win," said the ever-candid Fountain.
