Indians Rally For 7-4 Win
|
Cleveland Indians right-hander Rick Van Hemert pitched a good game against the New York Yankees at Tecumseh Field, leading his team to victory, 7-4. Ernest Martines earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 1-1. Easton Wilson picked up the save, his 3rd.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Cowboy Beyer came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Nathaniel Murphy, he hit a full count cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cleveland on top, 2-1.
"I'm proud to wear a Cleveland jersey," Beyer told the Cleveland Bulletin. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"
The third-place Indians now have a win-loss record of 20-22.
