Toronto Wins, 7-2, in 13 Innings
|
Toronto rode a good effort from starter Alfonzo Jiménez to beat the Montreal Expos at Olympic Stadium. The final score was 7-2. Bill Fahey earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. The first-place Blue Jays have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
Mendy Pérez, the 25-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Pérez contributed a 2-run single in the top of the 13th inning to put Toronto up, 5-2.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Pérez told reporters after the game.
