Big Day for Vargas as Tigers Down Reds, 6-5
The Detroit Tigers dealt the Cincinnati Reds a 6-5 loss at Comerica Park. Carlos Vargas was the star on offense. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Detroit reliever Julien Piché picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. James Doll absorbed the loss. The 4th-place Tigers improved to 21-22.

With Detroit leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Vargas hit a sinker from Christopher Brinck for a 3-run home run. It was his 10th home run of the season and put the Tigers ahead, 4-0.

"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Vargas told the Detroit Daily. "But we take nothing for granted."
