Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Cincinnati Reds take on the Montreal Expos.

The Expos grabbed a win, 2-0, at Great American Ball Park, overcoming a fine effort from Cincinnati pitcher Roger Jenkins. Jenkins went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs. The second-place Expos raised their record to 27-19.

It could have been a different outcome for Montreal, had it not been for Brian Ottman, the 26-year old second baseman . Ottman contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Montreal up, 1-0.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Cincinnati skipper Dave Lockett, "and it cost us."
