Blue Jays Get Close Win Over Reds, 5-4
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Toronto Blue Jays eventually prevailed.
Toronto beat Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to second baseman Mike Asawawong. He was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Toronto reliever Michael Turnbull was the winner. His record is now 3-0. James Doll took the loss. Homer Covarrubias picked up the save for Toronto, his 13th of the year.
The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Asawawong delivered big-time for Toronto, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off James Doll. The game-changing hit put the Blue Jays on top, 5-4.
"I was a little disappointed," said Cincinnati manager Dave Lockett. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
Toronto has an impressive 39-10 record.
