The Inland Empire 66ers did just enough to sneak past the Evansville Triplets, 3-2, at BB&T Stadium. Inland Empire pitcher Gavin Cole, in particular, had a standout performance. Reliever Edgar Owens picked up the win. His record improves to 5-3. Frederick Fair took the loss. Inland Empire, at 72-46, holds down second place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Division.

Inland Empire used the timely hitting of Trey Gurley to capture the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the 66ers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

"The want-to is there for our guys," said Evansville manager Mike McGarry. "We'll get this thing turned around."
