The Yuma Gnomes overcame a fine performance by Hialeah third baseman Ché Vela to defeat the Gales, 5-4, at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Vela hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Derek Agyeman locked down his 9th save. Yuma is 33-32 and Hialeah, with the loss, 38-27.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Liam Baker came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Hialeah pitcher Lee Lyles, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Yuma on top, 5-4.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Hialeah manager Javier Flores said following the tough loss.
