Glendale Tops Gilbert Again, 2-0
|
When he got to Glendale, Michael Honeycutt was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Regional Championship Series.
The 21-year-old rookie right-hander shut out the host Gilbert Geckos 2-0 in a remarkable performance at Camelback Ranch today. With the win, the Gauchos took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 Regional Championship Series.
Honeycutt earned the win, going 7 strong innings for Glendale. The native of Jeffersontown, Kentucky, allowed just 3 hits, while striking out 9. Gilbert hitters did next to nothing against the right-hander.
"We didn't score," said losing manager Jason Blahut. "That was the problem."
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Maryvale Baseball Park in Glendale.
