Expos Suffer 5-1 Loss to Cubs

The home crowd had a good time watching the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs get after it.
Chicago starter Joe Borck put a stranglehold on the Montreal offense. The right-hander had complete command of his slider in leading the Cubs to a 5-1 win. The winning pitcher was Borck, now 4-8. He tossed 5.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from first baseman Ben Waters. For the game, Waters went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Chicago a 3-0 lead.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Borck told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
Chicago is now 34-37, while Montreal is 44-27.
