Expos Subdue California, 3-1
|
The California Angels got a superb performance from pitcher Marc Bernal, but the Montreal Expos still won the game, 3-1. Bernal threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Bob Charles locked down his 3rd save. With the win over California, the Expos improved to 45-37.
Montreal used the bat of Tom Gula to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Expos ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Nervous? No," said Gula. "It was my time to shine."
