Athletics Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Tigers, 1-0
|
The Oakland Athletics did just enough to sneak past the Detroit Tigers, 1-0, at O.co Coliseum. Oakland pitcher Emmett Woodell, in particular, had a standout performance. Jon Szymanowski earned his 7th save in 8 chances. The Athletics sit in 5th place in the Western Region Northwest Division with a record of 35-60.
Had Isaac Cabarga not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Cabarga hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Athletics.
Cabarga called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
