Athletics Need Extra Innings to Top Cubs, 4-3
|
Behind the hitting of Isaac Cabarga, the Oakland Athletics stopped the Chicago Cubs, 4-3. Cabarga was 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks. He scored 2 times for the Athletics. Jon Szymanowski, 1-5, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. At 49-75, the Athletics are currently 5th in the Western Region Northwest Division.
Oakland used the timely hitting of Oliver Melendez to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Athletics on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Oakland manager Alejandro Suarez.
