Athletics Lose By a Run at St. Louis, 2-1
|
St. Louis pitcher Merlin Peres did his part in helping his team beat the Oakland Athletics, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Gabe Kassels, credited with the save, is now 32 for 38 in save opportunities. The Cardinals bumped their record to 78-50 with this win.
In the bottom of the seventh, St. Louis shortstop Bobby Grimm hit a two-strike fastball to left field for a run-scoring single. It put the Cardinals up, 2-1.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" St. Louis manager Jim Vaughn said.
