The Oakland Athletics topped the Texas Rangers, 4-3, in Western Region action at O.co Coliseum. The standout performance belonged to Oakland pitcher and Malden, Massachusetts, native Emmett Woodell. The winning pitcher was Woodell, now 7-8. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 8. Jon Szymanowski earned the save, his 18th.
Gerardo Campos went 1 for 2 for Oakland. The 25-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ezra Varney. It was his 24th RBI of the season.
Texas manager Andy Daniels said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The 4th-place Athletics improved to 53-77.
