Baysox Nip Rumble Ponies, 7-6
|
In a tight contest at NYSEG Stadium, the Bowie Baysox edged the Binghamton Rumble Ponies by the score of 7-6. Bowie left fielder Zach Peiser, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. B.J. Darakjian, the winner, improved to 2-1. He held Binghamton to 3 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. Phil Gilbert earned the save for Bowie, his 13th.
Tony Powell dealt the Rumble Ponies a blow in the top of the seventh. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Bowie leading 5-3, Powell, who is tied for 9th in the EL in runs scored with 30, hit a 2-1 changeup for a 2-run single.
Baysox manager Mike Brooks wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
With the victory, the Baysox record now stands at 24-26.
