Expos Best Yankees in Pitching Duel
|
New York wasted a solid 6.2-inning effort from starting pitcher Aaron Barbetta, losing to Montreal, 1-0, at Yankee Stadium. Max Mangan came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. Roger Johnson earned the save, his 1st, for the Expos.
Jimmy Miramontes, the 2044 Rookie of the Year winner , had a direct impact on the outcome. Miramontes contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Montreal up, 1-0.
"Runs were at a premium," said Montreal manager Dirk Botelho.
The loss puts New York at 2-6.
