Loons Bounce Whitecaps, 6-0
|
Great Lakes starter Jim Vercillo put a stranglehold on the West Michigan offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Loons to a 6-0 win. Vercillo got the win, improving to 4-1. He allowed 8 hits and walked 0 over 7 innings. Vercillo allowed no runs. The win puts the Loons at 46-35, while the Whitecaps drop to 40-41.
Paul Glentzer, the 23-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Glentzer contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Great Lakes up, 2-0.
"I liked his command," said Great Lakes manager Barry Tripp. "Jim was throwing strikes."
