Pirates Hope Win Turns Around Slow Start
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Minnesota Twins, 9-5, in Eastern Region action at Best Buy Ballpark. The game was highlighted by the performance of Pittsburgh pitcher Ralph Vincent. Vincent, now 1-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Vincent Prudhomme sewed up the save, his 1st.
Trailing 1-0, Pittsburgh hopes soared in the bottom of the second inning when the former first round draft pick Chet Ross lifted a 3-1 fastball into the stands for a 2-run home run. The round-tripper put the Pirates up, 2-1.
"We maximized our offense today," said Pittsburgh skipper Eddie Dolly. "That makes everyone's life easier."
For the Twins, the loss makes them 6-9.
