Dust Devils Sneak By Pippins, 5-4

Fans of the Tri-City Dust Devils who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Tri-City win over the visiting Yakima Valley Pippins, 5-4. Tomás Rocha started for the home team against Walton Ryan. Walton Ryan earned accolades for his performance. Tri-City reliever Mike McDonald picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Roger Mills absorbed the loss. Lincoln Margaritescu sewed up the save, his 1st.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Aiden Cohen came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Yakima Valley pitcher Roger Mills, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Tri-City on top, 5-4.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Yakima Valley manager Hugo Brito.
