Owls Snag 5-3 Win
|
The Roseburg Owls beat the Brooklyn Cyclones, 5-3. Roseburg pitcher and Belle Glade, Florida, native Wiatt Thompson led the way. Richie Mata, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. Kendal Corbett nailed down his 5th save.
Had Mose Schocker not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Schocker hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Owls.
Owls manager Sherman Reindollar raved about Thompson after the game. "I thought Wiatt was 'lights out.'"
The 7th-place Owls improved to 15-24.
