Royals Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
Montreal pitcher Antonio Rodriguez had a large part in his team subduing the Philadelphia Red Stockings, 2-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Rodriguez, now 2-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 3, walking 7, and allowing 1 run. Picking up the save was Dutch Baker. He's now 2 for 2 in save chances.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Royals had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when right fielder Lawrence Fitzgerald hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Frank Fisher and made the score 2-1, Royals. Fitzgerald was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Fitzgerald.
The 9th-place Royals have a record of 46-64.
