Toronto Defeated By Red Stockings, 8-5
|
Though he had a stellar game, Charlie Maxwell could not prevent his team, the Toronto Iron Spikes, from losing, 8-5, to the Philadelphia Red Stockings. Maxwell went 2-2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Earning the save was Willie Hutchinson. He's now cashed in 11 of 14 save opportunities. After today's action, Philadelphia sits at 39-42; Toronto slips to 33-48.
Kanitzar Karczmarczyk, who is tied for 7th in the EA in bases on balls with 49, helped out the Philadelphia cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the second baseman drew 4 walks in 5 plate appearances. He scored 2 runs.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Karczmarczyk told the Philadelphia Daily News.
