Red Stockings Drop Bronchos, 8-7
The Philadelphia Red Stockings overcame a pretty good performance by Cleveland first baseman Danny Ozark, beating the Bronchos, 8-7, at Liberty Field. Ozark went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. At 44-49, the Red Stockings claim 6th place in the Eastern Association.

James Pokel had a big 3-run home run for the Red Stockings in the bottom of the second inning. With Philadelphia trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Ralph Scheef and punished it. The result was his 15th home run of the season, which put the Red Stockings on top, 3-1.

"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Pokel.
