Yankees release DH Franmil Reyes

Post by briansss » Tue Jan 17, 2023 2:48 am

The Yankees find themselves in 4th place of the AL Professional division and in a recent shakeup has officially released DH Franmil Reyes. Reyes signed a 5 year contract worth $83M after decline the Chicago Cubs qualifying offer. This was Brian Sanchez's first major move as the new Yankees GM and there were concerns from all over about this move. People were not happy with the amount of money that was offered and Brian held firm on his decision. Well, folks, just 2 and half seasons later Brian has finally bit the bullet. Franmil has done so poorly in the Bronx and I feel bad for the guy. He was coming off multiple 30 homerun seasons and stumbled to 41 in only 2 seasons in pinstripes. Sanchez made an attempt to make things easier: made him DH, hired manager Elvis Hernandez, and hitting coach Lino Connell. But it wasn't enough. Apparently, the Yankees' front office could not foresee what this contract was going to produce.

Just less than a month before his 35th birthday, Reyes will have to reconsider his career as this will definitely be a transition period for him. The Yankees will owe him just over $39M for the next three years.
