New York Fall Again, 5-2
|
The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees, 5-2, at Yankee Stadium. The Mets got a fine performance from center fielder Whitney Vessey, who went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. The winner was Zack Thompson, who threw 100 pitches over 5.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits. Joe Doro picked up the save, his 12th.
Vessey had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a 0-2 slider from Josh Lewis, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Mets a 3-2 lead. It was the 6th home run of the year for Vessey.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said New York manager Jose Alguacil. "It's usually not just one thing."
New York has now won 3 straight, while the Yankees have lost 6 in a row.
