Division Series Game 1 Victory for Hitchcock and Cleveland
Erik Hitchcock and the Cleveland Guardians opened the Division Series in brilliant fashion, shutting out the visiting Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field, 8-0, and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Hitchcock, the Guardians right-hander, threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball.

Hitchcock, a native of Newark, New Jersey, was dealing all game. He kept Kansas City hitters off-balance, while giving the Guardians 7 quality innings. Hitchcock threw 103 pitches, allowing 2 hits and striking out 12.

"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Cleveland manager Juan Nunez told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
