Burlington Win to Pull Even With Johnson City
|
The Burlington Royals and the Johnson City Cardinals will take the Round 1 to a decisive 5th game. In a must-win situation today, the Royals beat the Cardinals 5-2 at Howard Johnson Field to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Burlington left-hander Luis Bonilla had a big role in the win. He threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball.
Burlington relied on the hitting of Jeremy Cook to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Royals on top, 3-0. For the game, Cook had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
Bonilla attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday at Burlington Athletic Stadium in Burlington.
