Cubs Edge Giants, 3-2
|
Chicago and San Francisco played a hard-fought contest.
The Chicago Cubs took San Francisco pitcher Pat Green's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Oracle Park. The final score had Chicago getting past the Giants, 3-2. Green went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 8. Chris DeWane picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 10-4. Joe Bowyer notched his 29th save in 31 chances.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Ian Marshall to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cubs on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I just try to bring what I bring to this team," said Marshall.
Chicago now sits in first place in the National League Professional Division at 69-43.
