Barons Turn Back Smokies, 3-1
|
Tennessee got a decent performance from pitcher Jeff Rewis, but it wasn't enough to beat the Birmingham Barons. Birmingham won the Regions Field contest, 3-1. Rewis threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Luis Benavides got the save, his 20th in 24 chances. Birmingham now has a record of 79-56 with the win.
The Barons got a big at-bat from catcher Esteban Barrera. For the game, Barrera went 1-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 22nd double of the season gave Birmingham a 2-0 lead.
In postgame comments to the Birmingham Observer, Barrera said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
