Springfield got a strong outing from Jorge Zermeno as the Cardinals defeated the Amarillo Sod Poodles, 11-2, at Hodgetown. The first-place Cardinals, at 72-55, lead the North Division by 3 games.

Winton Brocklebank had a big bases-clearing triple for the Cardinals in the top of the third inning. With Springfield leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Jimmy Elmer, who leads the with a 1.84 ERA, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 6th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 4-0.

Brocklebank said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
