Pelicans Need Extra Innings to Top Red Sox, 3-2
|
The Salem Red Sox and Myrtle Beach Pelicans provided some drama for the home crowd.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans picked up a win at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark, taking down the Salem Red Sox, 3-2, in 12 innings. On the mound for Myrtle Beach was right-hander Jorge de Nova. He played a central role in the triumph. Myrtle Beach reliever Ernesto Sarmiento picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ernesto Porras absorbed the loss.
The Pelicans got a clutch hit from first baseman Ernesto Cordero. In the bottom of the 12th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Pelicans.
"Our team showed some gumption," said de Nova. "I like it."
The Pelicans, with just their 7th win in 28 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
