Woodpeckers Win at Myrtle Beach, 5-4
|
The Fayetteville Woodpeckers polished off the Myrtle Beach Pelicans by the score of 5-4. The largest share of the credit belonged to shortstop Steve Bowers. Bowers was 4 for 6 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Woodpeckers. The winning pitcher was Whip Fudge. He's now 4-1. He went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits for the Woodpeckers. Ben Stern converted his 15th save in 18 tries.
Fayetteville used a timely hit from Doug Burkepile to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Woodpeckers ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Anytime you're seeing it well, it's a good feeling," Bowers told the Fayetteville Today.
The first-place Woodpeckers have won 5 consecutive games.
