Yankees Edge Past Blue Jays, 2-1
|
Toronto wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Chris Petersen, falling to the New York Yankees, 2-1. Petersen threw 9.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. New York pitcher Arturo Ortega got the win, upping his record to 3-1. Ismael Flores got the loss. Toronto, now 4-17, continues its tough start.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when New York second baseman Carter Young, facing Ismael Flores, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Yankees the 2-1 win.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Young said.
