Fans of the Burlington Bees who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Burlington win over the visiting Peoria Chiefs, 3-2. T.J. Jackson started for the home team against DeMario Ayala. DeMario Ayala earned accolades for his performance.

Burlington got a clutch hit from Chris Blanchard. The pinch hitter launched a 3-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a kill shot.

"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Blanchard told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
