The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-1, in National League action at PNC Park. The standout performance belonged to Pittsburgh pitcher and Yeehaw Junction, Florida, native Bobby Ward. Ward got the win, improving to 6-1. He allowed 5 hits and walked 3 over 6.1 innings. Ward allowed 1 run. The third-place Pirates are now 22-14, the Rays 12-24.

José Becerra hit a 2-run home run off Julián Martínez in the bottom of the first, which put the Pirates ahead, 2-1. In addition to the homer, Becerra had 1 double, while going 2 for 3.
