One Run Not Enough for Rockies
|
The Chicago (N) Cubs and Colorado Rockies played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
Chicago (N) pitcher Stu Jones did his part in helping his team beat the Colorado Rockies, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winner in relief was Bob Head. He is now 1-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings.
In the bottom of the seventh, Chicago (N) second baseman Ed Tipton gave his team the lead. With one out and a runner on 1st, Ape hit his 6th home run of the year. Colorado pitcher Wally Ellis surrendered it. With that, the Cubs jumped in front, 2-1.
"We want to make a habit of winning," Jones said after the game.
The Cubs go to 21-23, putting them second in the National League Central Division.
