Rays Drop Bombers, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring clash between Tampa Bay and Jacksonville, pitcher José Cervantes was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned accolades in the 3-1 win. Jerry Clay got credit for the save for Tampa Bay. It was his 1st of the year. The Rays, at 16-35, sit in last place in the American League Eastern Division.
Tampa Bay used the timely hitting of Rory Cochran to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rays on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Tampa Bay skipper . "I can't complain."
