Nationals Down Cardinals, 5-2
|
The Washington Nationals picked up a win at Busch Stadium, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-2. On the mound for Washington was right-hander Tim Carter, who played a pivotal role in the win. Carter, now 5-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Jimmy Reid got credit for the save for Washington. It was his 12th of the year.
Luis Mota went 1-3 for Washington. In a tie game with one out in the top of the sixth, Mota came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Nationals in front, 1-0.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Mota said.
With the win, the Nationals improved to 31-25.
