Royals Knock Off Twins at Kauffman Stadium
Héctor Ayala never let the Twins get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his sinker, to pitch the Royals to a win, 3-1. In 7.1 innings, Ayala surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Andy McClendon finished the game for Kansas City and earned his 23rd save.

The Royals got an important contribution from designated hitter Luis Díaz, who in the bottom of the fourth hit a first pitch changeup into left for a solo home run. It was his 21st home run of the season and put the Royals ahead, 1-0.

"We're scuffling right now," said losing manager Michael Brewer.

The Royals now have a mark of 39-35.
