Rockies Handle Nationals, 4-3
|
António Villarreal had a good game, but he could not keep the Washington Nationals from falling, 4-3, to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The Washington catcher went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice in the loss. The last-place Rockies now have a win-loss record of 27-54.
Had Joe Thompson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Thompson hit a 2-run double. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Rockies.
Thompson told the Colorado Daily: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
