Guardians Deal Giants 3-1 Defeat
|
The Cleveland Guardians picked up a win at AT&T Park, knocking off the San Francisco Giants, 3-1. Starting pitcher Alfredo Gutiérrez was a big reason why. Gutiérrez got the win, improving to 6-5. He allowed 5 hits and walked 0 over 7.1 innings. Gutiérrez allowed 1 run. Raúl Llanet collected his 25th save.
The Guardians got a lift from catcher Jorge Velázquez who had a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning off Stan Ledrew. It was his 8th home run of the season and put Cleveland in front, 2-1.
"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped San Francisco manager Robert Perinka. "Obviously."
Cleveland has a record of 45-43, placing them second in the American League Northern Division.
